The Story Behind Ramona Barn Owls’ Owl Logo Brand

And yes, the real-life owls who inspired it are part of this story.

Ramona Barn Owls isn’t just another clothing brand with a trendy animal icon. We’re an owl clothing line with a mission to protect wildlife—fueled by feathers, family, and the occasional mouse delivery caught live on camera.

Every design we create is based on real owls from our nest cams in West Ramona, California. Our logo? She’s not just a drawing. She’s Princess—a wild barn owl who raised multiple generations of owlets right in our founder Stacey’s backyard.

Her signature head tilt and pink glasses aren’t style choices—they’re symbols of a real personality that captivated thousands of livestream viewers and stole our hearts.

This post is your backstage pass into the real owls, real moments, and real meaning that shaped our logo—and our whole brand.

Why So Many Brands Choose Owls (And Why Ours Is Different)

Before we dive into the designs themselves, let’s zoom out for a second—because Princess isn’t the only owl out there with logo status.

There are plenty of examples of companies with owl logos.

From universities to travel apps, it’s no mystery why:

  • They’re wise (hello, academia).
  • They’re mysterious (perfect for marketing).
  • And honestly, they just look cool—especially in logo form.

You’ve probably seen a few familiar faces:

TripAdvisor, with its minimalist black owl design on a green background.

Duolingo, whose green cartoon owl pushes you to finish your Spanish lesson or else.

Temple University, where the owl means academic grit.

And, of course, Hooters—because apparently owls and hot wings go together.

Logos from TripAdvisor, Duolingo, Temple University, and Hooters featuring owl iconography.

Most owl logos are clever symbols or stylized mascots, designed to suggest things like knowledge, insight, or mystery.

But here’s the thing—we didn’t choose an owl to fit our brand.

Our brand exists because of an owl.

It started with one owl. One head tilt. One pair of pink glasses. And that’s where the story of our very first design begins.

Princess: The Owl Who Started It All

Princess was one of the most beloved owls to ever grace our nest cams. She stayed through multiple seasons, raising generation after generation of owlets. She had this unmistakable presence—curious, expressive, and just a little sassy—and she stole our hearts.

So when it came time to create a logo for our clothing brand with a mission, our founder, Stacey, did what only made sense: she made Princess the face of the brand.

And those pink glasses? You can thank Stacey for those, too:

“It’s kind of me in the owl. I wear glasses like this. I think glasses are cool, and I want people to feel like glasses and braces and all those things are cool.”

So yes—our logo owl is Princess. But she’s also Stacey, aka our resident Fairy Owlet Mother. And maybe a little bit of you.

A Few More Owls That Have Come to Life in Our Designs

Around here, every design starts with a real owl and a real story.

The 5 Guys design features five juvenile owls from one of Princess’s clutches—captured live on our nest cams as they grew up, developed their quirks, and battled it out for mouse deliveries. We watched it all unfold in real-time… then turned that unforgettable chaos into a hoodie (and other gear).

The 5 owlets behind the 5 Guys design, each with unique traits that inspired the owl logo brand.

Here’s who’s who on the perch:

  • The Bulldogs Owl – A nod to our local high school. This little guy rocks a Bulldogs tee and brings big mascot energy.
  • The Braces Owl – Inspired by the owlet who always looked just a little unsure, head low, eyes wide. Also, a way to celebrate the kids (and grown-ups) who stand out, look different or feel a little awkward.
  • The Chunky Owl – The chunky owl with glasses. Slightly rounder, chill, and always closest to the snacks.
  • The Shy One – Quiet, sweet, and peeking out from behind the others—like it’s not quite sure it wants to be on a hoodie, but we made it happen anyway.
  • The Baby – The smallest of the crew, trying hard to keep up. Eager, slightly lost, and totally lovable.

These are the real personalities of that clutch.

Because owls have personalities that are unique, too. Some are confident. Some awkward. Some have braces (ok, well maybe not braces)! Some just want to watch from the corner. Just like people.

When we say our designs are based on real owls—we mean it.

How to Spot a Ramona Barn Owls Original in the Wild

We like to think our designs speak for themselves—but just in case you’re new to the flock, here are a few iconic details you might notice in a Ramona Barn Owls original. (And yes, we love it when people spot each other in the wild.)

  • Head tilts — not just cute, but accurate. Barn owls tilt their heads because their ears are uneven (one higher than the other), which helps them triangulate sound. They’re turning their heads to tune into the sound of a mouse’s heartbeat.
  • Glasses — all of our designs feature at least one owl wearing different color glasses, a nod to our founder Stacey’s own signature style and a way of celebrating intelligence, individuality, and what makes us stand out.
  • Braces — yes, really. Because owls (and humans) go through awkward phases, and we’re here for the glow-up.
  • Branching — you might see an owl out on a branch because that’s what young owlets do right before they fly. They hop, flap, and wobble their way around branches as they build strength and courage. (Relatable.)
  • Personalities — from the shy one peeking from the back to the bold owl in the Bulldogs shirt (a local mascot for us here in Ramona), every character in our designs is based on a real owl with a real attitude.

If you’ve watched the livestream, you’ve seen it—fluffy drama, sibling squabbles, midnight snack deliveries, and proud moments of the first flight.

More Than Merch: The Mission Behind Every Design

Sure, we love a good hoodie. We love the cozy fit, the soft fabric, the kind you live in year-round. And yes, we’re totally into owls with glasses (our signature look) and the occasional owl in braces.

But here’s the bigger picture: This isn’t just merch.

Every design we release is part of a much larger mission—one rooted in love for wildlife, built on years of hands-on observation, and focused on protecting barn owls, educating people about poison-free rodent control, and showing the world how ridiculously amazing, quirky, and essential these birds truly are.

When you buy something from Ramona Barn Owls, you’re not just buying a piece of clothing. You’re joining a movement. You’re helping us:

  • Keep our 24/7 livestream going so people everywhere can fall in love with the same owls we watch every night.
  • Share our message about non-toxic pest control—because rodenticides don’t just kill rats. They poison the owls that eat them.
  • Support wildlife rescue, education and outreach, nationally and worldwide through our online community.
  • Help fund real conservation work, including our support of the Wildlife Research Institute in San Diego County.

It’s not just about wearing something cute. It’s about carrying the mission forward—literally on your chest—and making an impact with what you choose to wear.

So the next time someone asks about the owl on your hoodie, you can tell them about Princess. Tell them about branching. Tell them about real owls doing real work to keep ecosystems healthy and balanced—all without a drop of poison.

Because this isn’t just a clothing line. It’s a little love letter to nature. And you get to wear it and be part of the story.

Final Hoot: Why We’re Proud to Be That Owl Clothing Brand

There are a lot of owl logos out there. Some are cool. Some are clever. Some wear tank tops and serve hot wings.

But this owl—the one with the glasses, the tilt, the layered personality? That one’s ours.

That’s Princess.

That’s Stacey.

That’s the whole quirky, heartfelt mission of Ramona Barn Owls stitched into every thread.

We didn’t set out to build an owl logo brand. We set out to protect owls. To tell their stories. To help people fall in love with real wildlife.

And we do it one hoodie, one sticker, one curious glance at a head-tilting owl at a time. Whether you’re in it for the cause, the coziness, or the conversation starter, you’re helping us change how people see wildlife—literally and figuratively.

So if you’re wearing one of our hoodies, tees, or hats… thank you.

You’re not just wearing a design. You’re carrying the mission forward.

So when someone asks about the owl on your clothing, you can tell them about the Five Guys. About how owls have personalities—shy, bold, curious, quirky. About how they hunt without a sound, raise their young with care, and keep ecosystems in balance without a drop of poison.

Tell them you’re proudly wearing a mission—one that protects wildlife, sparks curiosity, and proves that real stories make the best designs.
